DANCE 1
Inspired by “Song 1,” Doug Aitken’s live projection at the Hirshhorn Museum, I collaborated with Simone Jacobson to create “Dance 1.” We wanted to create a democratic work open to the public, both as viewers and participants. Of the 28 people who participated, two-thirds had never done any type of performance before. The resulting 45-minute work received high praise from those in attendance and was a deeply moving experience for the participants.
